Out of the question意味「不可能」?

某天陪同國外公司同事拜訪國內客戶，我順便權充翻譯，協助兩邊的人進行會議溝通。當時出現一個翻譯誤解的笑話。會議中，討論到某個提案，同事說Our headquarters has clearly told us this proposal is out of the question. 我直覺的用中文說：「我們總部已經明確告訴我們，這個提案偏離主題了」。一旁的小妹，轉過來輕聲說，你講錯了。有嗎？我翻錯了？這真的有點糗。
我們來看一下，Out of question和Out of the question之間有沒有差異，到底是甚麼意思。

1. Out of the question

根據Collins dictionary 的說明：如果說某事是Out of the question，這是在強調它是「完全不可能」(impossible)或「不可接受」 (unacceptable)的。
例句：
For the homeless, private medical care is simply out of the question.
對於無家可歸的人來說，私人醫療根本不可能。

Is a tax increase still out of the question?
加稅是否仍然遙不可及？

2. Out of question

這個片語已經過時了，也就是目前不再使用。 根據Universal Dictionary of the English Language的說明：Out of question是指：「沒有問題的」 (unquestionably)或是「毫無疑問的」(doubtless)。

其中，另外一個說明，Out of question是Out of the question的變體，它將定冠詞省略，所以它也意味著「不可能」或「不被考慮」。
